Introducing Catherine Hyett – Leading GreenConnect into the Future
As the GreenConnect Dementia Respite project embarks on its next phase, we’re delighted to welcome Catherine Hyett as our new Project Manager. With over a decade of experience in nursing and community aged care – particularly in dementia care and respite services – Catherine brings valuable expertise and a strong commitment to supporting people living with dementia and their carers.
Catherine’s dedication to dementia care is both professional and personal. Having experienced the impact of dementia within her own family, she understands the challenges carers face in accessing the right support. This perspective fuels her commitment to delivering meaningful respite solutions that enhance quality of life.
Since joining GreenConnect as Project Team Leader in September 2024, Catherine has played a key role in supporting the team and fostering connections among participants. She has worked closely with Jade Field, Respite Care Coordinator in Bendigo, and Kaye Matthews, Respite Care Coordinator in Mildura, to ensure GreenConnect continues to provide high-quality respite care across the Loddon-Mallee region.
Together, they focus on a person-centred approach that prioritises the wellbeing of both people living with dementia and their carers. Seeing participants expand their support networks, share experiences, and build friendships has been one of the most rewarding aspects of Catherine’s work so far.
Looking ahead, Catherine is focused on strengthening GreenConnect’s reach across the region. She has already seen strong engagement in both Mildura and Bendigo, highlighting the impact of the project for families in need of respite. GreenConnect offers a fresh approach to dementia support, using nature-based activities and community connection to enhance wellbeing for both carers and people living with dementia. As the project continues to grow, Catherine is committed to ensuring more families –particularly in the Bendigo region – can access this innovative form of respite. Alongside the dedicated GreenConnect team, she looks forward to welcoming new participants and helping them experience the benefits of the project.
In Catherine’s own words: “Dementia can be isolating, not just for the person diagnosed but for their carers as well. My goal with GreenConnect Dementia Respite is to ensure families feel supported, understood, and connected to a community that truly gets it.”
With Catherine’s leadership, GreenConnect will continue its mission of enhancing the quality of life for people living with dementia and their carers through nature-based activities, experiences, and accommodation. If you or someone you know could benefit from GreenConnect, we invite you to reach out and explore how you can get involved.
We warmly welcome Catherine to her new role and look forward to the ongoing growth and success of the project under her guidance.
