“Travelling to Daylesford with Marg and Dot [other participants in the Project], we revelled in the countryside views,” said Pamela. “Victoria’s countryside is Australiana – you can be out in the country in a short space of time, unlike some big towns.”

Arriving at the Carnival, the group embraced the festive spirit by donning sparkly cowboy hats. “Our driver, Marg, looked like the Ace Cowgirl...boots and all,” Pamela chuckles. “Too much fun, obviously,” she adds, reflecting on the joyful camaraderie.

Amidst the colourful marquees, the Carnival showcased a plethora of informational booths on various topics, from ageing to LGBTIQA+ issues. “Our GreenConnect Dementia Respite Project marquee attracted a lot of interested people,” said Pamela. “It was a fruitful exchange of information and connections.”

The day was filled with laughter and spectacle.  “It was a jaw-dropping, colourful, glitzy, way-out, zany day. We loved it all,” said Pamela. Amidst the festivities, unexpected friendships bloomed, including a bond formed with ex-military personnel Kevin and John who talked at great length.

According to Pamela, the nicest thing all day was walking around the ‘village atmosphere’ and smiling at everyone. Next year, we'll go all out to enjoy ourselves and ‘blend in’ even more,”

Pamela and Kevin’s day at the Boots & Bling Carnival encapsulated the spirit of community and celebration, reminding them of the joy found in connecting with others and embracing new experiences.
